Seniors Substance Abuse Program

     The goal of the Seniors program is to assist you in addressing any alcohol or medication issues that may be troubling you. In addition, it is geared toward helping you understand and come to terms with a range of issues and concerns beyond substance use that are frequently specific to the older adult and which can be experienced as emotionally upsetting.
As we grow older, we face a number of social, economic and physical changes that can be stressful. Many issues that are relevant to younger adults such as jobs, marriage and child-rearing endeavors may no longer seem important to you. As a result, you may feel disconnected from others or socially isolated and alone with your concerns. Perhaps you are coping with grief and loss. Possibly you are struggling to contend with a host of problems that seem to defeat your self-confidence. You may feel that no one cares, understands or identifies with your difficulties. Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed with the challenges common to many in the third age of life, we find ourselves relying more frequently on alcohol or medications to smooth out our troubles and ease our worries.

     Addiction Alternatives: Counselling & Treatment Services understands your needs and programs directly to address your concerns. You will not be asked to embrace a goal of abstinence or accept a label you find distasteful. We stress positive choices and gradual changes. The approach is non-confrontational, holistic, nurturing and respectful of your wishes. Our obligation is to help you understand how alcohol and medications effect your health as you get older and to assist you in developing the strategies to reduce or eliminate problematic use. We help you solve problems, overcome barriers, acquire social supports and identify the resources and activities that will promote well-being.
