Family Education & Support Program
Provides Education, Counselling and Support for people whose lives
have been impacted by family members or loved ones who abuse alcohol
or drugs.
The goal of the
family program is to provide you with the emotional support
and assistance you need in order to regain your balance in a
situation that seems hopelessly out of control.
Regardless
of whether or not the substance abuser is attempting change...
|
You will have the help
and encouragement you require in order to make sense of your
own feelings and needs as an individual. You will be
empowered to begin the process of making any necessary changes
within yourself or the family system as a whole irrespective of
the decisions and actions being taken by your substance abusing
family member or loved one.
|
During individual counselling sessions we work together
to:
Explore the complex nature of
substance abuse/dependence and its impact on the individual.
Help you recognize how an
individual’s abuse of alcohol or drugs impacts you and the family as
a whole.
Help you understand and make sense
of your own thoughts, feelings and needs.
Consider the role of family
dynamics in relation to specific family issues and problems.
Help you understand how family
interactions and communication styles can aid in the continuation of
the substance abuse or work to resolve it.
Develop an acceptance of the need
for change within the family as a whole as well as in its various
members.
Learn new skills, communication
patterns and behaviours that are flexible and respectful of each
other’s needs and feelings.
Explore your strengths and
discover how they can be utilized in family reconciliation.
Consider any possible referrals to
community supports, resources or professionals that might be needed
to address your problems or needs.
Help you rebuild self-esteem and a
sense of personal empowerment.
Develop confidence, peace of mind
and hope for the future.
Your family member or loved one does not
need to be attempting personal change before you seek help
addressing your own feelings and needs.
Someone else’s drug and alcohol abuse can be extremely detrimental
to family harmony and your own sense of well-being.
If you are feeling
overwhelmed by the substance abuse of a loved-one, help is but a
phone call away.
